<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of managing a transmission mode of a wireless device in a wireless network having a plurality of wireless devices. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method is carried out at the wireless device which is communicating with at least one further wireless device among the plurality of wireless devices, and includes receiving a signal transmitted at a particular transmission rate from the further wireless device, determining the transmission rate of the received signal, and managing the transmission mode of the wireless device in accordance with the determined transmission rate.
