<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary valve device capable of switching separately between a valve opening timing for opening an intake passage and a valve closing timing for closing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rotary valve 25 is equipped with a valve body 26 rotatably provided in the intake passage 3, a tubular depression 35 where part of the intake passage 3 retracted outward in the rotary radial direction of the valve body 26, and a dead zone 36 arranged between a tip end 26a of the valve body 26 and the depression 35 in such a manner as to extend in the rotary circumferential direction of the valve body 26 to be capable of maintaining a closed state of the intake passage 3 even if the valve body 26 rotates. As a member acting as the dead zone 36, there is provided two shielding members 37, 38 arranged so as to be independently movable along the rotary circumferential direction of the valve body 26.
