PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing method of a molten iron using iron-containing dust/sludge agglomerate as raw material by using a vertical melting furnace, with which the molten iron can be manufactured with high productivity and at a low cost while performing a stable operation. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method, iron-containing dust/sludge agglomerate and cokes are charged from a furnace top, hot air is blown from a plurality of tuyeres 2 at a furnace lower part, and iron-containing dust/sludge agglomerate and cokes are melted with the coke combustion heat. Oxygen is enriched in hot air, and at least one kind of the iron-containing dust/sludge agglomerate and the cokes to be charged in the furnace is dried or preheated in advance. By adequately supplying oxygen in the furnace, the cokes are burned and the iron-containing dust/sludge agglomerate is melted adequately in the entire furnace, and by suppressing the drop of the furnace top temperature, dew condensation of corrosive gas in an exhaust gas pipe, and in-furnace accumulation of the dust or the like are suppressed.
