PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a large number of shift speeds of favorable gear ratio steps from a gear arrangement and obtain smoothness in acceleration of an automatic transmission while maintaining the good transmission efficiency of manual speed-change. SOLUTION: The transmission for a vehicle has a main transmission M and a differential mechanism 20, wherein the main transmission has gear pairs 1, 2 of different gear ratios and the differential mechanism has three elements 21, 22, 23. There are provided a first input means C-1, C-2 which selectively inputs rotation to both gear pairs, and a second input means 1, 2, C-3 which connects two gear pairs to the two elements 21, 22 of the differential mechanism and inputs the rotation to the other element 23. By switching between power transmission which directly transmits the rotation to one gear pair and power transmission which simultaneously transmits different speed rotations to two gear pairs via the differential mechanism, shifting with no torque escape can be performed, and since an intermediate gear ratio with respect to an individual gear ratio of the gear pairs is generated at a time of the simultaneous power transmission, the number of shift speeds can be increased.
