PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat lamp with mechanical strength improved and capable of restraining loss of discharge energy. SOLUTION: With the flat lamp, a front substrate 21 and a rear-face substrate 22 are coupled with a spacer 26, so that, even if positive pressure is added due to cubical expansion of discharge gas at discharge, an interval of the substrates 21, 22 can be retained to prevent them from damage. Since a concave part 28 is formed at a position where the spacer 26 is coupled on an outer face of the rear-face substrate 22, a space 29 can be formed functioning as an insulation area between a rear face 2c and a flat-plate electrode 3. With this, discharge itself at an area near the spacer 26 can be restrained, so that creeping discharge can be restrained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
