METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING HIGH PRESSURE DISCHARGE LAMP

Provided is a manufacturing method to prevent devitrification of an arc tube of a high-voltage discharge lamp used for projectors. The method is for manufacturing a high-voltage discharge lamp which uses, as a light source, an arc tube having a tungsten electrode and formed of a fused quartz and is installed horizontally when the lamp is practically operated. The method includes a step of initially operating the arc tube with the optical axis thereof set horizontally before shipment of the high-voltage discharge lamp. The rotational angle with respect to the optical axis of the arc tube in the step of initial operation is not smaller than 45° and not larger than 135° relatively to the rotational angle with respect to the optical axis of the arc tube when the lamp is practically operated.
