<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new class of pheromones which stimulate the resuscitation of bacteria after dormancy or resuscitation factor (RP-factor) which may exhibit activity at picomolar concentration since the latent states of pathogenic bacteria become serious medical issues. <P>SOLUTION: RP-factors, their cognate receptors, convertases, respective genes and inhibitors or mimetics thereof are described.
