<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new variety produced by a method for producing a new variety having a target character by controlling a substitution region by a chromosome fragment derived from a foreign variety to be transferred without changing a preferred character that an original variety has in a case in which a plant variety is improved by a non-gene recombination and a method for discriminating the new variety. <P>SOLUTION: The variety is prepared by a new variety preparation method for using a chromosome fragment substitution system in which only a part of chromosome of original variety is substituted with a chromosome fragment derived from a foreign variety, setting DNA markers M1-M5, respectively, for one target region in one or a plurality of target regions of chromosomes of original variety, and controlling length of homochromosome fragment derived from a foreign variety to be substituted so that an upstream terminal of homochromosome fragment derived from a foreign variety exists between DNA markers M1 and M2 and a downstream terminal of homochromosome fragment derived from a foreign variety exists between DNA markers M4 and M5.
