PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a color filter having excellent optical characteristic by reducing uneven application due to an ink jet method, and an ink jet application device reducing uneven application. SOLUTION: In this method, the correlation coefficient R between the chromaticity of a colored layer formed by discharging ink at a time t<SB>1</SB>and the chromaticity of a colored layer formed by discharging ink at a time t<SB>2</SB>is obtained. In the case of R>R<SB>0</SB>, discharge of ink is continued to further form a colored layer, and in the case of R≤R<SB>0</SB>, recovery of an ink jet head or replacement of the ink jet head with another ink jet head is performed.
