<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear head capable of increasing an output characteristic of a main shaft. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The gear head has the main shaft, a plurality of gears provided on a main shaft, a motor for driving the main shaft, an intermediate shaft provided between the main shaft and the motor, and a shift gear provided on the intermediate shaft to carry out shifting and allowing gear change of the main shaft by selectively meshing with one of the plurality of gears of the main shaft side. The motor has a plurality of windings, and speed of the main shaft can be changed by selectively changing to one optional winding. The output characteristics of the main shaft are increased by combining the gear change of the main shaft by selective changing of the plurality of windings of the motor with the gear change of the main shaft by the shift gear.
