Provided is a display device having a light reception unit and a drive unit for the light reception unit which are arranged on an active matrix substrate to correspond to one or more pixels.  The light reception unit includes: a photodiode; a capacitor which accumulates an electric charge in accordance with an electric signal during a period from the moment when a reset signal (RST) from the drive unit is switched from a high level to a low level to the moment when a high level read-out signal (RWS) is supplied from the drive unit; and a switching element which outputs the light reception signal having an output level changing in accordance with the accumulated electric charge while the read-out signal (RWS) is at the high level.  During one row selection period, the drive unit switches the reset signal (RST) for the light reception unit of the same row from the high level to the low level after completion of a write-in of an image signal to a pixel electrode of the row selected during the row selection period.
