<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a porous ceramic having alkali resistance and thermal shock resistance and suitably used as a reaction vessel. <P>SOLUTION: The porous ceramic comprising a crystal body containing spinel as a principal component and containing cordierite, and having ≥40% apparent porosity and ≤8.66×10<SP>-6</SP>/°C thermal expansion coefficient is obtained by mixing plastic clay obtained by removing or finely pulverizing quartz, an alumina component and a magnesia component each in an amount of ≥20 wt.%, forming the mixture into a prescribed shape and firing it at 1,100-1,350°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
