<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and highly reliable control device of an outboard motor while easily securing an installation space. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An engine control unit (the control device) 42 of the outboard motor 1 has a main control deice 42a for controlling a fuel system and an ignition system of an engine, and a sub-control device 42b for supplying and monitoring an electric current and/or voltage of the fuel system, the ignition system and a starting system of the engine. According to this invention, since the engine control unit 42 of the outboard motor 1 is divided into the main control deice 42a and the sub-control device 42b according to the function, the enlargement of the engine control unit 42 is prevented, its installation space is easily secured, and the engine control unit 42 can be reduced in cost, and can be improved in reliability.
