<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect positional shifting of a light modulating element without specially machining components originally provided in a projector and to install a detecting part for detecting positional shifting in a position not to intercept the projection light. <P>SOLUTION: This projector includes: a polarized light separating means 115 for separating unnecessary polarized light components not required for projection among the polarized light components of composite image light emitted from a composite optical system 114; an image sensor 130 for outputting image data corresponding to the separated unnecessary polarized light components; position adjusting mechanisms 140R, 140G, 140B capable of adjusting the positions of a plurality of light modulating elements corresponding to the different color components by each light modulating element; and a position adjusting control device 150 for the light modulating elements, which has a positional shifting calculating part 151 for calculating the positional shifting direction and the positional shifting amount of each light modulating element based on the image data output from the image sensor 130 and a position adjusting mechanism control part 152 for controlling the position adjusting mechanisms 140R, 140G, 140B based on the calculated positional shifting direction and positional shifting amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
