<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a clothes drying time by raising the temperature of an evaporator when drying clothes under low ambient temperatures and preventing clogging caused by the frost formation or the like on the evaporator. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The clothes dryer includes an air blower 11 of variable air volume type for circulating drying air, and when a temperature sensor 30 attached to the evaporator 21 detects a temperature of a predetermined value or less, reduces the air volume of the air blower 11 for a given time (a time for Δ1) to suppress the lowering of the temperature of the evaporator 21 and suppress the frost formation on the evaporator 21.
