PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality determination apparatus capable of identifying a failure position with high precision when a trouble occurs in a system equipped with a variable working angle mechanism. SOLUTION: The abnormality determination apparatus includes: a control shaft; and an actuator for moving the control shaft. The abnormality determination apparatus also includes: a variable working angle mechanism which increases an working angle of a valve disposed at a cylinder of an internal combustion engine if the control shaft is moved in a prescribed direction and which decreases the working angle if the control shaft is moved in a direction opposite to the prescribed direction; a target value calculating means for calculating a target value of the working angle; an operation amount sensor for detecting an operation amount of the actuator; a position sensor for detecting a position of the control shaft; and a failure position identifying means for identifying a position in which a trouble occurs by comparing the target value, a value detected by the operation amount sensor, and a value detected by the position sensor.
