PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent comfortable feeling of use from being lost due to heat generated inside. SOLUTION: In a hammer drill 1 having a mode switching knob 48 for switching an operation mode by operation from the outside which is mounted at a gear housing 2, a cover 62 covering the mode switching knob 48 except a knob part 49, supporting it in a thrust direction so as not to be loosed, and forming an air layer between itself and the gear housing 2 is mounted at the outer surface of the mounting part of the mode switching knob 48 in the gear housing 2.
