A Gaussian filter (2) having a first cutoff frequency extracts a low-frequency component signal in a video signal. A subtracter (3) subtracts the low-frequency component signal from the video signal and extracts the high-frequency component signal. A low-pass filter (5) that has a second cutoff frequency that is higher than the first cutoff frequency extracts a lower high-frequency component signal at the low side of the high-frequency component signal. A multiplier (6) multiplies the lower high-frequency component signal by a prescribed gain (G1) and generates a corrected component signal. An adder (7) adds the corrected component signal to the video signal.
