<p>Placing heavy objects on a pallet of greater area than the projected area of the object, erecting pillars at intervals around the plinth to locate (temporary) panels or a casing within which a foam-forming material may be cast or sprayed to envelope the object. Pref. the mould and the object are coated with a release agent. Esp. for protecting heavy equipment with expanded polystyrene, polyethylene, polyurethance or styrene-acrylonitrile foams if cranes or hoists are to be used. A full area base is easy and safe to pick up and stable against tipping. It is simpler to erect the foam mould around a heavy item than to lift the item (plus bearers) in an out of a permanent mould.</p> |
