<p>1277524 Bituminous concrete SHELL INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 18132/70 Heading C3N [Also in Divisions Dl and E1] A water-permeable, wear-resistant asphalt pavement with elastic deformation is prepared by (a) spreading on to a base a layer of hot asphalt composed of a bitumen and aggregate to give a layer with a pore volume of 5 to 10% (b) impregnating said layer while at a temperature of at least 65‹ C. with a liquid epoxy resin composition containing epoxy resin and curing agent, and (c) allowing the resin to cure. The layer may be compacted between steps (a) and (b) and (b) and (c) with a roller and fine aggregate may be applied between steps (b) and (c). Specified epoxy resins are polyglycidyl ethers of 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)-propane and polyhydric alcohols and polyglycidyl esters of hydrophthalic acids which may contain small amounts of monoglycidyl ethers and esters. Specified curing agents are ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, N-aminoethyl piperazine, epoxide/ aliphatic amine adducts, polyamides, aminoalkylimidazolines and mixtures of aliphatic polyamines and naphthenic acid. The resin composition may also contain phenolic accelerators and aromatic petroleum fractions as extenders. In a specific example the asphaltic concrete contained aggregate (chippings, sand and filler), particle size 0/8 mm., and 5À9 wt. per cent (13À1 vol. per cent) of a petroleum bitumen of penetration 98 dnm./25‹ C. and soft point (R and B) 46‹ C.</p> |
