The method involves realizing an estimation of an average outdoor temperature during an autonomy period, and determining consumption of a building (2) in order to ensure the desired indoor temperature depending on the previous estimation of the average outdoor temperature. An amount of the energy to be provided depending on the previous consumption, and the amount of fuel required for a boiler (4) for providing the energy are determined. An independent claim is also included for a heating system for a building, comprising a sensor measuring temperature outside a building with indoor temperature.
