Furfuyl alcohol formaldehyde prepolymers

In prepn. of the title cpds. by reacting furfuryl alcohol with formaldehyde in presence of an acidic catalyst, stopping the reaction by neutralising the catalyst and removing free formaldehyde, the prepolymer so-obtained is heated, after neutralisation of the catalyst, in presence of 0.1 to 0.5% with respect to weight of furfuryl alcohol, of a metal ion catalyst e.g. a Zn-, or Pb-cpd. The prepolymer is used as a binder for foundry moulds.
