[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula in which X represents hydrogen, Y represents chlorine or a methyl group, n is 1-4, Z represents chlorine or a methyl or nitro group and m is 1-5, and the acid addition salts and N-oxides of such compounds. The ethers may be prepared by heating the appropriate phenol and 2-bromopyridine with anhydrous potassium carbonate. The N-oxides can be obtained by treating the ether with hydrogen peroxide in trifluoroacetic acid. Specified salts are those derived from hydrochloric, sulphuric and picric acids. The ethers possess herbicidal activity (see Division A5). |
