Disclosed are methods and systems for guaranteeing restoration of traffic betwee one or more cable modems and a backup cable modem termination system upon failue of an active cable modem termination system. Subscriber information associated with one or more cable modems is received from an active cable modem termination system. The subscriber information includes o ne or more subscriber identifiers. he subscriber information may include a primary subscriber identifier that ident fies a particular cable modem as we ll as a secondary subscriber identifier thats assigned to high priority traffic such as that being transmitted in real-time. In addition, the subscriber information may also include a scheduling type thats further used to categorize the real-time traffic, such as into voice or video raffic. The subscriber information is then prioritized in an order in which the ransmission of messages between the one or more cable modems and the backup cabl modem are to be restored. For instance, the subscriber information may be prior tized according to time of receipt of the subscriber information, presence of se ondary subscriber identifier, and/or scheduling type. The cab le modems are the olled according to this priority order.
