In a hinge assembly, a pin member mounted on a hinge member pivots about an axis parallel to the hinge pins and an end portion engages with a hinge arm to hold the hinge in a predetermined position. In the figure, pin 10 comprises an outer tube 14 which slides over a hollow inner tube 11 housing spring 12. When the door 7 is open the pin member is pressed against an abutment in casing 8 and does not engage hinge arm 1. As the door closes the pin comes into engagement with socket 19 in hinge arm 1 to hold the door closed. In other embodiments the pin engages with one of the hinge bars itself. |
