815,744. Fluid-pressure servo motor-control systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 15, 1955 [Sept. 21, 1954], No. 26474/55. Class 135. A pressure transmitter for liquid metal sys. tems comprises a tube 10 open at one end to the system and sealed at the other by a diaphragm 11 rigidly connected to a second diaphragm 16 which divides a hollow portion in a housing sealed to the tube into an upper chamber 17 and a lower chamber 18, the upper chamber having a port 40 for connection to a pressure gauge, force balance means being provided for imparting a force to the diaphragm 16 equal and opposite to that imparted thereto as a result of the system pressure, the force balance means comprising a port 30 for admitting pressure fluid to the chamber 17 and an exhaust port 32 having a nozzle 33 controlled by the position of the second diaphragm 16. The housing comprises a member 14 which acts as a backing member for both diaphragms and a cup-shaped cap 15. The port 30 leads through a restricted orifice 31 to the chamber 17 and the nozzle 33 is controlled by a spring valve assembly 36 urged against the diaphragm 16 by a spring 37. The chamber 18 is normally vented to atmosphere through a passage 42 but the latter may be used to admit a known pressure for calibration purposes. Most of the parts of the transmitter are made of a nickel, chromium, iron alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark " Inconel," or a variant thereof known as " Inconel X." The spring valve 36 and the nozzle 33 may, however, be of stainless steel, tungsten or molybdenum.
|
