PURPOSE: A horizontality/verticality induction method, an apparatus thereof, and a digital photographing device using the same are provided to enable a user to catch horizontality/verticality of a crooked image, thereby enabling the user to photograph an exact image. CONSTITUTION: A controller(71) extracts edges from an input image, and selects a reference edge measuring the horizontality/verticality among the extracted edges. A horizontality/verticality measuring unit(73) measures the horizontality/verticality of the input image based on the selected reference edge. A horizontality/verticality induction part(74) informs a user of the horizontality/verticality of the input image according to the measurement result. The horizontality/verticality measuring unit measures the horizontality/verticality of the input image by using a distance between a pixel on the edge of the image and a pixel on the selected reference edge.
