The line (1) has orientation units (13) for orienting an exhaust gas through a heat exchanger e.g. tube or plate type heat exchanger, and a by-pass duct (11). The units orient the entire gas towards a part of the by-pass duct by by-passing the exchanger. The units orient the entire exhaust gas through the exchanger if flow of the gas in an upstream duct (3) is lower than a preset value. The units orient part of the gas through the exchanger and part of the gas towards the part of the by-pass duct by by-passing the exchanger if the flow in the upstream duct is higher than the value.
