<p>A high vacuum muffle furnace, into which muffles with the charge to be heated are inserted through doors at its endfaces, comprises two chambers with water cooled walls. A muffle may be introduced into each of these. The muffles are vacuum tight and are pumped down independently. The furnace is fitted with an overhead rail mounted heater which may be moved into either chamber through an opening in the partition between the chambers. A subsidiary vacuum is maintained in the furnace. The furnace is suitable for bright annealing of metals and may be used for the simultaneous heating and cooling of two muffles, which operations are carried out alternately in both chambers.</p> |
