Method of obtaining hard agglomerates from fine iron oxide fines consists of (a) passing fines through agglomerating rollers (smooth or tarred), (b) charging agglomerate with particle size >8 mm into fluidised bed furnace and, (c) treating at >800 degrees to 900 degrees C in light or heavy oxidising atmosphere using either liquid or gaseous combustible, or hot air. The hot spent gas from the fluidised bed may be used for preheating the incoming air, and precipitated fines may be passed back to the agglomerating rollers. By the use of low O2 partial pressure in the furnace Fe2O3 may be converted to Fe3O4. Method produces agglomerate suitable for dry transportation and for further pyrometallurgical treatment.
|
