<p>The surface of contact is constituted by the weft fibres of a strip of fabric cut along the warp direction opposite a narrow zone in which warp fibres have been preferentially removed, the fabric consisting of a number of superposed weft fibres in the same plane combined with warp fibres following the same path between the layers. The high porosity, thickness and mechanical resistance of the special fabrics is useful in making windscreen wipers, brushes and scrapers. Pref. the weft fibre may be a single or multi-strand filament of phosphor-bronze which may be mixed with =30% of PTFE monofilaments, or is wholly of PTFE. The warp fibres may be of cotton or cotton blended with PTFE or 'Rohvyl' (R.T.M.).</p> |
