<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information display system for simplifying and displaying the information of homogenous objects existing on a photographic screen in a dense state to enable a user to accurately recognize the information, and a portable information terminal adopting the information display system. <P>SOLUTION: The photographic image of a photographing means 1 is displayed on the screen of a display means 2, and an observer designates an object from the screen. An extraction means 3 recognizes the image of the object, and applies it to an object location detection means 4 and a retrieval means 6. A homogeneous information detection means 8 detects homogenous information from among information retrieved from a database 7 by the retrieval means 6. A density level detection means 9 detects the density level of the objects of the homogenous information on the screen. A homogeneous information display configuration control means 10 determines the simplified display configurations of the information for the objects in a dense state from the detection result.
