<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner for accurately detecting a laser beam and accurately scanning a surface to be scanned based on the detection result. <P>SOLUTION: A light receiving element for receiving the deflected laser beam and a mirror for reflecting the laser beam and entering it to the light receiving element are held integrally using a holder. The holder is fixed to a housing for holding at least either one of a light source, a deflector, and a scanning optical element. Therefore, the relative positional relation of the light receiving element to the mirror is kept constant, and the relative positional relation of the light receiving element to at least one of the light source, the deflector, and the scanning optical element is also kept constant.
