<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a fault retained in an upstream part pass in the tension mechanism of a filament winding apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The tension mechanism 40 of the filament winding apparatus applies tension to a traveling fiber bundle R. The tension mechanism 40 is arranged along the traveling direction of the fiber bundle R and includes first and second nip mechanisms 40a and 40b which carry out the switching between the nip and opening of each fiber bundle R. First and second nip mechanisms 40a and 40b switch the nip and opening of the fiber bundle R alternately, and at least one of the first and second nip mechanisms 40a and 40b keeps the fiber bundle R nipped.
