<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control operation device can suppress power consumption as much as possible by being lit only when a user actually operates it. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The remote control device is installed in a lavatory, and includes an illumination part 1 for dark places. Various operations such as buttock cleaning, bidet cleaning, drying, deodorizing, operation and stop of a local cleaning device installed in a toilet bowl in the lavatory are remotely controlled by button operations of the remote control operation device. The remote control operation device includes a distance measuring sensor 4 consisting of a photoelectric sensor having a light-emitting part 2 and a light-receiving part 3, measures distance between an object B for detection and the remote control operation device, and inputs its measurement results in a control part 5 built in the remote control operation device. The control part 5 consisting of a microcomputer determines whether or not the user intentionally holds up his hand in front of the remote control operation device based on the measurement results to be input from the distance measuring sensor 4, and performs lighting output to the illumination part 1.
