<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption during a standby mode provided in display as much as possible, in a liquid crystal display device for driving the display of a liquid crystal display panel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a gate driver (11) for driving the gate electrode group of the liquid crystal display panel; a source driver (12) for driving the source electrode group of the liquid crystal display panel; a liquid crystal drive signal generation part 13A for inputting a display clock CLK and a synchronizing signal, generating a reference drive signal and transmitting it respectively to the gate driver (11) and the source driver (12); a serial communication control part 13B for inputting a display signal and a clock synchronized with the display signal, generating respective drive signals for a gate electrode and for a source electrode corresponding to the display signal and transmitting them to the gate driver (11) and the source driver (12); and a switching circuit 13C for interrupting the input of the display clock CLK to the liquid crystal drive signal generation part 13A in the standby state of temporarily stopping display on the liquid crystal display panel.
