[Also in Division C3] Dihydroaromatic hydrocarbons are produced by hydrogenation of corresponding aromatic hydrocarbons in liquid NH 3 using metallic sodium and a lower aliphatic alcohol as the source of hydrogen, the sodium being dispersed in an inert diluent and having an average particle size of 0À5-50 microns. Benzene, alkyl benzenes and polyphenyls are amongst the hydrocarbons exemplified as starting materials. Examples relate to the production of 1,4-dihydrobenzene from benzene. |
