The method involves determining exceeding of a threshold value (S1) by local interconnect network (LIN) bus voltage using a slave circuit (100). A normal mode detection phase is started, and a time period of exceeding of another threshold value (S2) by the voltage is evaluated in the phase. The circuit is moved from a sleep mode to a normal mode when the period of exceeding the latter value by the voltage is associated to a normal mode command in the phase. The circuit is operated in the sleep mode when the period of exceeding the latter value is not associated to the command in the phase. An independent claim is also included for a slave circuit of a local interconnect network (LIN) bus comprising a receiver circuit connected with the LIN bus.
