The method involves detecting an image using a camera e.g. charge coupled device (CCD) camera. Image regions (C1-C7) with preset image content e.g. traffic sign, are searched and determined in an image (B1). The image regions are subjected into the image for a local image enhancement without inserting additional image elements. Visibility of the image regions in the image are enhanced using an image processing algorithm without performing edge marking of the image regions. An entire image with an enhanced image region is visually reproduced by a display device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an image display device comprising a camera (2) a computer program product comprising instructions for performing a method for displaying an image.
