The device has pins (40-46) lying at upper limiting walls on one side and at other lower limiting walls (84-90) on another side for locking an extendable part (10) in an extendable position. The lower limiting walls are stationary relative to the vehicle. The walls lie on opposing sides of the pins in the extendable position such that the walls stress the pins with shear strain during loading. A housing (14) sectionally receives the extendable part in a resting position. A cover closes the housing and/or a carrier (12), which is fastened to a vehicle.
