<p>Provided is an authenticating method, which is safe against various attacks on a public network such as the KCI attack and which can make the needed computational complexity less than that of the prior art. In this authenticating method, the mutual authentication processing technique utilizing the Diffie-Hellman type key exchanges is modified such that the calculations of a master secret Ks in a server are performed according to Ks = gy. Here, y is a random number generated in the server (y belongs to (Z/qZ)*). In these methods, the group of orders q is expressed by (G, ·), and the creation elements g, U and W belong to the set G.
