<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a stamp from being unexpectedly protruded when a path for guiding a document is opened for removing the clogged document. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an automatic document feeder, a stamp unit 62 is configured to stamp a read completion mark onto a document inside an inversion path by protruding a stamp 40 into the inversion path 47 through a plunger 40a. When an ejection path 45 is opened by an opening/closing frame, a float preventive spring 42 moves a platen guide 41 away from the inversion path 47. Then, the platen guide 41 is moved to a position where movement of a flange 40c of a spindle 40b is regulated. As a result, even when the stamp 40 attempts to protrude into the inversion path 47 by inertia or vibration when the opening/closing frame is opened, it is blocked by the platen guide 41.
