<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve power saving in a communication network. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A state transition method of a power line communication apparatus includes the steps of: detecting link-down of Ethernet(R) communication by means of a communication control section (step S102) while the power line communication apparatus is in a normal state (S101); stopping the operation of a block (X) and a block (Y) (S103); broadcasting a packet showing that the power line communication apparatus enters a stop state (A) from a normal operation state to notify another information communication apparatus connected to a network about it (S104); and causing the power line communication apparatus to shift to the stop state (A) thereafter (S105).
