<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pipeline processing system for surely transmitting a message to an external device only one time when a failure occurs in an active system computer during transmission of a message to the external device, and the system is switched from the active system computer to a backup system computer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The active system computer, the backup system computer and an input-output part 300 are mutually connected by a network 100. Each computer has a shared memory device with a consistency maintaining device. The external device 200 to communicate with a computer is connected to the input-output part 300. Upon transmitting a message to the external device 200, the computer transmits the message with an ID stored in its own shared memory device with a consistency maintaining device, to the input-output part 300. The input-output part 300 determines whether the message has not been transmitted yet with reference to the ID of the received message, and discards the message if the message has been already transmitted.
