<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot-water heater for surely preventing burnout of a thermal power generating element even when a commercial power source is failed in generating electric power during a heating operation applying the commercial power source as its power source. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This hot-water heater 1 applying the commercial power source as its main power source includes a thermal power generator 15 applying electric power from a battery 27 as its power source. In this hot-water heater 1, a heat exchanger 3 heated by a heating means 5 for air heating is connected with a water circuit 2 for air heating having a heating load 10, and the water for air heating is circulated along the water circuit 2 for air heating by a circulation pump 11. A high-temperature side of the thermal power generator 15 is heated by a heating means 18 for elements, and its low-temperature side is cooled by the water for air heating at a downstream side of the heating load 10. A power generating operation control means 21 which controls a power generating operation is provided. The power generating operation control means 21 includes a power failure detecting means 30 detecting the power failure of the commercial power source, a power generating combustion stopping means 31 for stopping the heating means 18 for elements when the power failure is detected, and a power supply switching means 33 for switching the power supply to the circulation pump 11 from the commercial power source to the battery 27, when the power failure is detected.
