<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably obtaining an aqueous resin dispersion having a nano-sized particle diameter and low molecular weight without using any organic solvent or chain transfer agent while causing no aggregate and the like. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method for producing the aqueous resin dispersion, after emulsion polymerization of a polymerizable unsaturated monomer mixture containing a polymerizable unsaturated monomer having an acid group and a polymerizable unsaturated monomer having a hydroxy group is carried out at 100°C or higher, neutralization is carried out while keeping the obtained polymer at a temperature not below its glass transition temperature.
