<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve usability by reducing downtime due to measurement of circumferential length. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes, for example, a rotary body used for image formation, a measuring means, an adjusting means, a detecting means, and a measurement control means. The measuring means measures the circumferential length of the rotary body. Using the circumferential length of the rotational body, the adjusting means adjusts conditions for image formation when conditions for adjusting the conditions for the image formation is satisfied. The detecting means detects a parameter relating to the change of the circumferential length. The measurement control means measures the circumferential length when the parameter detected by the detecting means satisfies conditions for circumferential length measurement. Meanwhile, when the parameter detected by the detecting means does not satisfy the conditions for circumferential length measurement, the measurement control means skips measurement of the circumferential length.
