A method for coating a metallic substrate (60) includes applying a powder coating composition (64) to a majority of a surface (62) of the metallic substrate (60), and applying an autodepositable coating composition (66) to less than the majority of the surface (62) of the metallic substrate (60). According to a preferred embodiment, the powder coating composition (64) is applied to at least one continuous surface (68, 70) of the metallic substrate (60), while the autodepositable coating composition (66) is applied to at least one discontinuous surface (72), such as an edge, of the metallic substrate (60).
