PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preventive and therapeutic treatment effective for HIV-1 infection.

SOLUTION: The present invention relates generally to the use of recombinant adeno-associated viruses (rAAV) for gene delivery and more specifically to the use of rAAV for delivering antibody genes to target cells in mammals. Administration of rAAV encoding antibodies that neutralize the HIV-1 virus is exemplified. The invention uses an approach using the presence of a human monoclonal neutralizing antibody for the HIV-1 gp160 and a gene delivery character peculiar to AAV originating in a significant trouble relating to both active immunization strategy and passive immunization strategy.
