CATALYST FOR CLEANING EXHAUST GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas, the oxygen storage/release capacity of which is improved by using ceria and which restrains the production of H2S.

SOLUTION: The catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas is composed of a lower catalyst layer which contains a ceria-zirconia compound oxide containing 50-70 mass% CeO2and ≥5 mass% Pr2O3and on which at least one of Pt and Pd is deposited and an upper catalyst layer which contains zirconia at the least and on which Rh is deposited at the least. The total amount of CeO2per 1 liter carrier base material is 15-30 g. Since the amount of CeO2is small, the catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas restrains the production of H2S and the catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas exhibits high oxygen storage/release capacity even if the amount of CeO2is small.
